As an Independent Product Consultant
for doTerra I am often asked why doTerra. With a click of the
mouse, you can browse hundreds of businesses selling Therapeutic
Grade Essential Oils. Many
Essential Oils sold in the market place are labeled Therapeutic
Grade. One of my clients asked me, “Why should I buy 15ml
bottles of doTerra Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® Essential
Oils when I can buy Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils in 2oz
bottles from company XYZ”? After further research of company
XYZ, I discovered that each 2oz bottle of “Therapeutic Grade
Essential Oil” came with its own MSDS sheet with a list of
warnings for its use. A few of these warnings consisted of, “if
swallowed consultant a doctor immediately” and “may cause severe
skin irritation”.

Below is a chart that shows the
types of Essential Oils that are common in the industry. The
first is “Synthetic”; which is used in the Perfume and
Industrial industry. These oils are made up of synthetic
compounds or are chemically engineered. This makes up the
biggest part of the Essential Oils sold today. The second is
“Food Grade”; these oils are used in the food industry. For an
Essential Oil to be used in the food industry it only has to
pass as “Generally Recognized as Safe”, commonly known as the
GRAS Standard. The third is Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils.
These can be purchased in dollar stores, body and bath stores,
health stores and more. For many years, this has been the
highest standard of oils on the market. Therapeutic Grade
Essential Oils go through a testing process called Gas
Chromatography. Most reputable companies in the Essential Oil
industry conduct this test. This test checks and insures that
the oil contains the correct compounds; however, it does not
determine if the oil contains any impurities, pesticides or
other chemicals. This grade of Essential Oils often has warning
labels on the bottles and generally cannot be taken internally.
The small dot in the center is CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic
Grade®. This is the highest standard of Essential Oils in the
market today. All doTerra Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®
Essential Oils are third party tested. The first test is the Gas
Chromatography and the second is Mass Spectrometry. The Mass
Spectrometry test checks all the compounds in the oil and also
checks for pesticides or any other impurities that may be
present in the oil. doTerra Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®
Essential Oils are guaranteed to be 100% pure and natural and
free of synthetic compounds or contaminates.
